During hot weather, training or prolonged physical activity, the body produces sweat to cool itself. However, comfort depends not only on the temperature but also on how efficiently clothing moves moisture away from the skin. This is what COOLMAX® technology was designed to do.

What is COOLMAX®?

COOLMAX® is a technology based on specially engineered synthetic fibers. Their structure helps transport moisture from the body to the outer surface of the material, where it spreads over a larger area and evaporates more quickly.

KRAMATAN garments use functional COOLMAX® polyester fabric designed for active movement, everyday wear and conditions involving increased physical activity.

How does moisture management work?

  1. The body produces moisture. Sweating is the body’s natural cooling mechanism during heat or physical activity.
  2. The fibers move moisture outward. Special channels in the fiber structure help transport it away from the skin.
  3. Moisture spreads across the surface. Instead of remaining concentrated in one area, it disperses over a larger part of the fabric.
  4. Evaporation happens faster. This helps the material dry more quickly and reduces contact between wet fabric and the skin.

It is important to understand that COOLMAX® does not produce cold by itself. The feeling of coolness and comfort comes from more efficient moisture transport and faster drying.

Advantages and possible limitations of COOLMAX® fabric

Advantages

  • Moisture management. The material helps transport perspiration from the skin to the outer surface.
  • Quick drying. Moisture spreads across the fabric and evaporates faster than it does from ordinary cotton fabric.
  • Comfort during movement. The material remains relatively lightweight when damp and works well during heat and intensive physical activity.
  • Breathability. The structure of the functional fabric supports air circulation.
  • Long-lasting performance. The moisture-management properties are built into the fiber structure rather than being only a surface treatment.

Possible limitations

  • the synthetic texture may feel different from natural cotton;
  • during prolonged intensive use, polyester clothing may retain odors and therefore requires regular washing;
  • the material is sensitive to excessive heat, so high-temperature washing, drying or ironing should be avoided;
  • the knitted fabric may snag when it comes into contact with hook-and-loop fasteners, sharp edges, branches or rough surfaces; wash the garment with all fasteners closed and separately from clothing with metal hardware;
  • COOLMAX® helps manage moisture but cannot replace ventilation, appropriate layering and proper hydration;
  • the actual performance and feel depend on the garment’s construction, fit and specific fabric composition.

When is COOLMAX® clothing particularly useful?

T-shirts and long-sleeve shirts made from functional fabric are a practical choice for:

  • training, running and active recreation;
  • extended periods outdoors;
  • work and service involving high physical activity;
  • travel and hiking;
  • everyday wear in hot weather;
  • use as a functional base layer.

COOLMAX® or regular cotton?

Cotton is pleasant to the touch and absorbs moisture well, but once wet it may remain damp longer and become heavier. Functional COOLMAX® polyester fiber works differently: it helps move moisture outward and supports faster evaporation.

Either material may be comfortable for relaxed everyday wear. During hot weather, sports and demanding activity, the key advantage of COOLMAX® is its moisture-management performance.

How should the garments be cared for?

To help clothing retain its shape, appearance and functional properties, always follow the care instructions on the label of the specific garment. Avoid excessively high temperatures, aggressive bleach and any care methods not recommended by the manufacturer. Close all hook-and-loop fasteners before washing and avoid contact with sharp objects or metal hardware that may snag the fabric.
